oh hey! still playing hooky from blog duty… sorry about that! we’re still getting up, in plenty of ways…

we painted last friday during the street 2 screen festival. it was pretty cool, we got to paint with our man delton demarest and members of the your name in graffiti crew! continuing the theme of our infatuation with paint, we illustrated a holy can and roller… thanks to kim owens from kaffiene buzz for getting us involved!
during the painting session, we began filming with our friend anne, from channel 9 news! we’re working on a segment with her that will air next month some time…

(sonia, debbie, and jessie. co-founders of the open hearts art center)Â
our magnetic street art exchange program is in full swing again, this time we’re swapping with with artists from ashville, north carolina! the ladies of spondere have teamed up with locals and a handfull of artists from the open hearts art center, an organization that works with adults that have developmental, mental, physical, and emotional disabilities. we just heard that they have already made 15 magnets to send back to denver!!
Â
^^^ since we’ve finally began working in the 3d realm of street magnetism, you will begin seeing more strange objects appearing around the city! take this paintbrush for instance…
*** also, this thursday (the 22nd) from 2-5pm, we’ll be speaking and hosting a magnet workshop at the university of denver! whoa… we don’t have all the fine details, but we’ll be discussing various alternate forms of communication and to discuss the ideas behind our magnetic methods. after discussing things, we’ll be painting up a storm with the attendees!! there might be info for this workshop on facebook, be we haven’t tracked it down yet, we’ll post additional info tomorrow. thanks morgan!!!
oh yeah… we’ve been super slackers on the blog this week. but you know we’re always up to something behind the scenes! we’ll be painting friday the 16th (tomorrow) at falcon bowl, it’s next to the gothic theater, so the website says… we’re also bringing a stack of customizable ‘hello my name is’ magnets for the event patrons to tag up! more info at www.street-2-screen.com. check out the other things going on during this street 2 screen weekend… graffiti documentary bomb it playing at the starz filmcenter and a graffiti discussion panel also at the starz filmcenter!

we’ll be posting a bunch of stuff this weekend…Â time to get back on it!
thank you for being our mothers.
i’m pretty sure that’s a valid statement since we took over 300 photos on our trip to arizona…  here’s some more photos from smoca, just a few.

there were a lot of magnets made and delivered to smoca from all over the country…

smoca provided everyone with 2″x2″ magnets (1800 to be exact) to decorate and place on the steel shell of the museum.

it’s always interesting to see what someone else puts on their magnets!

our friend, kenny, from smoca got us hooked up with a booth at the first friday artwalk in phoenix! we sold a bunch of our hand-painted magnets and a few magnetic spraycans!

the roosevelt row artwalk is one of the largest first friday gatherings in the united states! all of the side streets were shut down, there were vendors everywhere, live music, crazy art, and food!

many of the houses in this area have been converted to studio/galleries, boutiques, or bars… hoodride (a gallery/boutique) had a bunch of fresh art inside and they had plenty of goods in the front yard too, this area is so cool!

i’m not sure how hoodride owner got his hands on those mooninites in the windows, they’re pretty rad, and it’s the first time we’ve ever seen them in person!! our only other experience with them was from the cartoon network ad campaign gone bad in city of boston…

we hit a little house/gallery called \\wolfgang//. it featured the work of bobby castañeda, really vibrant work, we spent a lot of time there enjoying it all.

sick

pravus gallery had some craziness going on as well… one side of the gallery displayed erie arrangements of custom fabric tentacles emerging from the floor, the other side was a custom toy show.Â
Â
there was also a set of paintings inside from a canadian artist named arden hill.  we hung out with him and another fellow we met, matt connelly, one of the gallery curators for the toy show. we discussed art ideas and collaborations for latter half of the night while hopping around from place to place… we had fun!
there’s more stories to tell and photos to post, so stay tuned! we’ll also post more photos from our trip on the forum pages in the next day or so…
we returned home today after an intense stay in arizona… the art scene is pretty crazy out there, and we made a lot of solid connections within the network. we will be going back as soon as we can!!
there is plenty of debriefing that will take place this week, along with a bit of catch up to stay on the ball with other things happening soon. we’ll post plenty of info and pics shortly, but for now you should check out what the arizona version of the ‘westword’ had to say about us, phoenix new times blog and slideshow.
this street magnet has a new home on craig’s fridge! thanks for the shot craig!

this is alicia’s fridge. she painted that red magnet when we painted at the andrea ball cd release party! thanks alicia!

hey everyone!! sorry for the lack of updates, but it’s crazy out here!! we’ve enjoyed the great weather here, 80 to 90 degrees, while it snows in denver… the people have been very receptive and we’ve met a lot of artists and creatives so far. we set up our magnets at the scottsdale museum of contemporary art this afternoon, and it was unbelieveable to see our magnets inside and outside of the building, seriously! we’ll be setting up a booth tomorrow at the phoenix first friday art walk on roosevelt row, one of the largest first fridays in the nation, we’re pumped!!
check out the photos, we’ll post more stuff asap… right now, it’s time to eat!! peace-
