updates + fridge friday!

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

wow!  this democratic national convention has brought a ton of sick artists out to denver…  we’ve been in and out of andenken gallery this week, checking out all of the work getting put up.  it’s sick!  huge murals are getting painted inside andenken and a satellite building 2 doors down from andenken…  we witnessed hvw8, ray noland, sam flores, david choe, date farmers, the mac, and maya hayuk, all getting down on giant murals specifically for dnc.  shepard fairey is headlining the show in the satellite, but hasn’t started his mural yet.  it’s going to be insane over there!  we have no photos to show because security it that tight…  so you’ll have to come down and see for yourself next week.  **oh yeah, big ups to scot lefavor for all of the work he’s got in this show!

we’ve got a few large magnets rolling around this weekend on the outside of a nomadic gallery called the boom truck; it started it’s journey last night on 18th and wazee.  the interior gallery has some fresh work from local artists, rodney wallace, brian robertson, joroko, laurie lynnxe murphy and a hand full of others!  check out the boom denver website for route details to view the show…

we’ve also been helping with a couple mural projects lately…  our friends over at broken bread arts gave us the opportunity to practice spraycan techniques, aka can control.  it’s a bit different than what we usually do with spraycans, so it was a lot of fun!  we’ll post photos of the walls we worked on soon-

there’s probably more updates to talk about, but now it’s time for fridge friday!!!

^^^ fresh work from kitzchy!!!  her collages are awesome.

this fridge is owned by someone that does graffiti removal in denver!  even they keep our work!

friday hot day

Friday, August 1st, 2008

we’d post pictures of people in the denver heat, but it might melt your computer screens…  heat exhaustion is this week’s excuse for no fun blog posts!  anyway, tonight is first friday, so galleries are open all over denver.  one in particular will be displaying the work of a fellow mafioso, kyle carpenter, an aerosol artist…  he actually painted a set of magnets for the austria exchange and hooked us up with the fresh magnetmafia logo that we’re rocking on our website!

oh yeah, with all the heat exhaustion going around, almost forgot to say where kyle’s showing!  his art is showing at anam cara gallery in bel mar, the lakewood area…  check out the flyer below.  sorry for the late posting-

other notable places tonight…  andenken gallery will be showing the stencil art of london artist ben eine (this will be his first show in the united states).  and our highschool friend, joroko is showing at now art space in the tennyson art district.

the santa fe art district is going to be a madhouse tonight, the democratic headquarters is right there and the dnc is only 3 weeks away…  santa fe drive is shut down to through traffic between 6th and 9th avenue, there’s vendors and craziness all over, and watch out for the security guards…  try not to get maced!.  and if you’re going to santa fe, good luck finding a good parking spot!!

andenken tonight!!

june warmup

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

ok, it’s pretty late and i’m tired, i’ll try to make this quick…  first fridays seem to just get better in denver, every time i go to a different gallery i am pleasantly surprised by something!

laurie lynnxe murphy at plus gallery.  awesome work!

obama wheatpaste across the street from the group show at andenken.  wonder who did that…

‘merge’ group show at andenken.  amanda marie, scot lefavor, vince comparetto.  sick!

super duper mini canvas grid by amanda marie.

light boxes by vince comparetto. i love these things!

we had fun at the ‘art in the city’ event also, there will be some cool shows at the aitc gallery in the near future.

this weekend…

it’s that time again, the time when a majority of the galleries around town show their newly hung work…  this month is going to be pretty intense!  many of our friends are showing around town this thursday through saturday.  we’ll be posting plenty of information over the next few days.

first off, audrey macnamara will be having a solo show at the meadowlark bar, thursday night.

on friday, there will be a big group showing at space gallery called molten.  four of our friends will be part of this show; alicia bailey, rafa jenn, katie taft, and jason thielke.  it should be pretty hot…

andenken gallery will also be opening to show called merge.  featuring artwork by vince comparetto, amanda marie, and our homie scot lefavor.

we’ve been kicking it with scot a lot lately while he’s been wrapping up his portion of andenken’s triple-whammy art show.  here’s a couple shots of scot in action.

go scot!  watching him make his art is a trip, the steps to produce his work are lenghthy and tedious, and the require major patience…  one would never imagine just how much time he puts into each piece.   we witnessed this series from start to finish more-or-less, what he does is crazy, he’s crazy, and anyone that isn’t at this show on friday is crazy….

more event posts tomorrow-

catch up and recap

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

finally!!  here’s a briefreview all of the stuff we’ve experienced in the last month and a half…  it’s a lot to take in!

‘magic beans for sale’ artshow at dnote.  scot lefavor signing a painting he sold.  going to arvada for an artshow is sort of weird, but there will be more events at this spot.

world famous graffiti artist, bigfoot one showing at andenken.  his work is pretty original.  what’s up ginger?!

rhinoceropolis…  photography exhibit.  dope.

the custom toy show on east colfax was insane!  so many sick toys…  set up between three shops, 800 cupcakes and a handfull of dj’s, this was a good night!!

mcad (museum of contemporary art denver) new exhibit opening.  i was told not to take photos of the exhibits…  so i won’t post them.  but here’s the glass walkway on the roof…  scary!

we were invited to the new beta nightclub for the grand opening…  jay paul apodaca painted 500 square feet of art for this club, this hallway is only a portion of it!  everything is crazy in there…  dj’s troublemaker and z-trip killed on the decks.

scattered arts collective members:  tim pourbaix, jeff klapperich, and danny latzer.  also present:  myself, john baxter, and brian robertson.  planning for a summer/fall collabo project.  this should be good!

rhinoceropolis’ april art exhibit entitled ‘draw rings’  had a lot of sweet stuff on display…  here’s a couple pieces from mario zoots!  that one with the piece of tape next to it means it’s sold…  to me!!

at andenken.

last month the andenken gallery showed the art of the world famous graffiti artist, bigfoot one.  this month they are showing the art of antonio diaz and david p. madson (aka odd nosdam).  two awesome shows…  pretty much every show at andenken is awesome!  visit andenken’s blog for details on upcoming shows…  they are booked out until the fall of 2009 with dope artists!

the man that first opened andenken, hyland mather, is moving to amsterdam with his family in a couple weeks…  so this was the last opening that they will see for quite a while.  hyland and his wife malia are close friends of ours, we’ll miss them a lot.  but now we have a great excuse to make the trip out to amsterdam!!

auctions/artshows/austria

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

so the aiga heart art auction on thursday went well…  my painting sold for $100!  not bad for me!  all the auction proceeds benefit aiga and project angel heart.  i think the highest bid item was around $1100!  good job artists!

 aiga heart art auction

the art opening for leslie minnis at andenken was last night, i heard that everything there was insane…  matt went, hopefully he got some good shots.  sounds like he had a wild night out on the town…

leslie minnis

we got an email forwarded to us from austria!  one of the magnets placed in graz (sounds like gratz) has a new home on someone’s balcony!
