ok, it’s pretty late and i’m tired, i’ll try to make this quick…  first fridays seem to just get better in denver, every time i go to a different gallery i am pleasantly surprised by something!

laurie lynnxe murphy at plus gallery.  awesome work!

obama wheatpaste across the street from the group show at andenken.  wonder who did that…

‘merge’ group show at andenken.  amanda marie, scot lefavor, vince comparetto.  sick!

super duper mini canvas grid by amanda marie.

light boxes by vince comparetto. i love these things!

we had fun at the ‘art in the city’ event also, there will be some cool shows at the aitc gallery in the near future.

more friday art and music

Friday, June 6th, 2008

jay paul apodaca, aka the 5th sword, has finally opened another art gallery!!  paradox is the new gallery’s title, it’s about 10 minutes outside of downtown denver, it has a killer sound system, and the walls are rockin!  paradox will be open for the first time to the public this friday.  the main exhibit will be a large compilation of jay’s own paintings, zombie 138, myself, and a mystery artist will also be showing at paradox…  does anybody remember luz? jay’s last gallery on south broadway?

i stopped in this week to get a few shots of jay’s recent work.  check it out!

the night doesn’t stop early at jay’s gallery…  while most showrooms close down after 9 or 10pm, parardox will just be warming up, doors open at 8pm and the live music starts at 10pm.  check it out!  paradox is on the northeast corner of sheridan and jewell.

oh yeah, matt let me know we’re on the roster for another art in the city afterhours session!  art on display will include the work of ray young chu, matt doubek, and about 10 other artists, musical performance by the talented andrea ball, and we’ll be painting live through the night.  the aitc gallery is located at 2762 walnut street, doors open at 9pm.

this weekend…

it’s that time again, the time when a majority of the galleries around town show their newly hung work…  this month is going to be pretty intense!  many of our friends are showing around town this thursday through saturday.  we’ll be posting plenty of information over the next few days.

first off, audrey macnamara will be having a solo show at the meadowlark bar, thursday night.

on friday, there will be a big group showing at space gallery called molten.  four of our friends will be part of this show; alicia bailey, rafa jenn, katie taft, and jason thielke.  it should be pretty hot…

andenken gallery will also be opening to show called merge.  featuring artwork by vince comparetto, amanda marie, and our homie scot lefavor.

we’ve been kicking it with scot a lot lately while he’s been wrapping up his portion of andenken’s triple-whammy art show.  here’s a couple shots of scot in action.

go scot!  watching him make his art is a trip, the steps to produce his work are lenghthy and tedious, and the require major patience…  one would never imagine just how much time he puts into each piece.   we witnessed this series from start to finish more-or-less, what he does is crazy, he’s crazy, and anyone that isn’t at this show on friday is crazy….

more event posts tomorrow-

worth at least 300,000 words

i’m pretty sure that’s a valid statement since we took over 300 photos on our trip to arizona…  here’s some more photos from smoca, just a few.

there were a lot of magnets made and delivered to smoca from all over the country…

smoca provided everyone with 2″x2″ magnets (1800 to be exact) to decorate and place on the steel shell of the museum.

it’s always interesting to see what someone else puts on their magnets!

our friend, kenny, from smoca got us hooked up with a booth at the first friday artwalk in phoenix!  we sold a bunch of our hand-painted magnets and a few magnetic spraycans!

the roosevelt row artwalk is one of the largest first friday gatherings in the united states!  all of the side streets were shut down, there were vendors everywhere, live music, crazy art, and food!

many of the houses in this area have been converted to studio/galleries, boutiques, or bars…  hoodride (a gallery/boutique) had a bunch of fresh art inside and they had plenty of goods in the front yard too, this area is so cool!

i’m not sure how hoodride owner got his hands on those mooninites in the windows, they’re pretty rad, and it’s the first time we’ve ever seen them in person!!  our only other experience with them was from the cartoon network ad campaign gone bad in city of boston…

we hit a little house/gallery called \\wolfgang//.  it featured the work of bobby castañeda, really vibrant work, we spent a lot of time there enjoying it all.

sick

pravus gallery had some craziness going on as well…  one side of the gallery displayed erie arrangements of custom fabric tentacles emerging from the floor, the other side was a custom toy show.

there was also a set of paintings inside from a canadian artist named arden hill.   we hung out with him and another fellow we met, matt connelly, one of the gallery curators for the toy show.  we discussed art ideas and collaborations for latter half of the night while hopping around from place to place…  we had fun!

there’s more stories to tell and photos to post, so stay tuned!  we’ll also post more photos from our trip on the forum pages in the next day or so…
